40 cards
Spanish deck (40 cards)
La baraja española: coins, cups, swords and clubs — no 8s or 9s.
The Spanish deck (baraja española) uses four Latin suits: Oros (coins), Copas (cups), Espadas (swords) and Bastos (clubs or batons). It's the deck of choice across Spain, Latin America, the Philippines and beyond.
The 40-card version has ranks 1–7 plus three court cards: Sota (Jack, numbered 10), Caballo (Knight, 11) and Rey (King, 12). There are no 8s or 9s, and no Queens. Games like Escoba, Brisca, Tute, Mus and Truco are played with this deck.
