52 cards

Standard 52-card deck

The classic French-suited deck found in nearly every home.

The standard deck — sometimes called the French-suited or Anglo-American deck — has 52 cards split into four suits: spades ♠, hearts ♥, diamonds ♦ and clubs ♣. Hearts and diamonds are red; spades and clubs are black.

Each suit has 13 ranks: Ace, 2 through 10, and three face (court) cards — Jack, Queen and King. Whether the Ace counts high or low depends on the game, so every guide on this site tells you exactly how cards rank.
