The 48-card Spanish deck adds the 8s and 9s back in, giving each suit twelve cards. Many packs also include two comodines (jokers), making 50 cards in all.
It's the go-to deck for rummy-style games such as Chinchón, and you can always remove the 8s and 9s to play the 40-card games.
